I spent a mere $2 on some Chenille Multi-colored Pipe cleaners. The solid colered ones appeared to be small in deminsion.
There were 25 to a package. I used a total of 40 for my head. The front was better at holding curls because I did the front first. The back was the first to go as far as curls and waves are concerned. I only used water and tea tree oil right after a shampoo.
Here's the results. locked hair set pipe cleaners using pipe cleaners to roller set locs
Welcome! I'm a writer from Texas. I was locked by Imani Nash-Bey of Pomona, Ca 11-28-03. I had my Sisterlocks for about 8 years and cut them off in 2011. I love it! Economical and fly? You really can't beat that! Question: Did you have any problems with slightly protruding metal on the ends?
Very innovative. It did the job. Your curls look great!

Hey ladies,
I 've been retightening my hair all day, so I'm behind on checking in and following up!
Leighann-The metal did poke me a few times until I learned how to bend em' away from my scalp. Other than that, it was fine.
Ree-C, Sisterlockedlondon, Tra, Blaq, and Jazzilocs, thanks for the feedback and compliments. If you try em' let me know or of course, post pics! :-)
I used these and my hair turned out pretty good for the $1.79 I spent, but I slept in them and was poked by the wire all up in my neck and head LOL, so I bit the bullet and ordered to spike curlers! But I will post on my blog soon the pics of my hair after the pipe cleaners! Thanks for the idea!
Your hair is so cute in that set. Where can I purpose those pipe cleaners that you used. I use the hard perm rods, very uncomfortable to sleep in.
Hey Detra and Salkis,
Thanks for your comments. Sorry your head got poked D!! I'll be by your blog soon!
Salkis, I used to use perm rods in the very beginning. I wonder what my hair would look like if I used them today. I'll have to see. Take care ladies!
Thanks J,
Let us know when you get em'!
