India Arie's Video~I Am Not My Hair

With so many locversaries and more movements to totally embrace our natural selves, I had to hunt down the video for India Arie's "Sistah Girl Hair Anthem" I Am Not My Hair. http://www.youtube.com saved the day.

Since I'm like Brunsli and my sister Jen, who do not watch TV, this was actually my first time seeing the video. I heard the song on line and read the lyrics, but tonight was able to see and hear. So, Blaqkofi and everyone else celebrating Natural Freedom, enjoy!!! For the lyrics, Click on Blaqkofi's name.

Now I love me some india.arie! Her lyrics always speak to what's in my heart. In thinking about Tra's drama,Hampton, Six flags and Destini Berry I'm reminded that our hair is just that, hair! Not our self esteem not our carte blanche and not our name tag. It's crazy how our environment can attach such importance to such an aesthetic topic. My SL's gave me more confidence to be myself and appreciate my inner beauty by expressing it with my hair. Isn't that crazy! But that's the reality we live in, I'm just glad india came out to set the record straight

Hey Chi-chi. I was glad to see the video to make the lyrics come alive. The funky beat is cool as well. We have all had to endure struggles and it's a shame we have to be held back because of our God given crowns. Thanks for sharing and stay strong!!

Tanya, Glad you finally got to see the video. It's nice.

SIL, I have to have a daily dose just to get the day going. Let me know how the whole album is.

Take care ladies.

Maryee...how cool of you to do this and you're so smart to figure out how to do it! I don't watch much tv and I don't watch videos so I had never seen it - making this a double treat. I highly recommend the entire CD. It is full of self observations and awareness that many sisters go through. It is deep and truly ministers to my soul. Check it out, you won't be sorry. Tell Jen, she has to check it out the whole CD and we need to have a rap session afterwards. Thanks again girlfriend. You blew me away with this and the slammin lyrics you left on my site...I luv me some Sisterlocks luv!

Thanks and you are quite welcome, Blaq. Just a lil' researching and I'm always on my way. You know Jen and I don't watch tv either, so this was nice to find. I listen to it a couple of times a day cause the beat and words are sooooo fly! I'll have Jen check out the CD so ya'll can have your wrap session on our next visit.
;-)

Girl you know you are always my inspiration when it comes to Blaq's beauty and boldness. Hopefully I can have my "surprise" for you soon. Hang tight.
