DFW Locked Hair Gathering

We had a really nice end of the summer gathering in Ft. Worth, Tx at Pappadeaux's 8/19/07. Bev organized and hosted the event and did a fab job! Jenn Jenn, who has the gift of hospitality, provided the most sweetest loveliest door prize gifts for all attendees. One of Gigi's male customers was in attendance and offered some pleasant conversation. He had traditional locs. As usual we had new attendees whose hair looked fantastic. Some said they already knew who most of us were from our blogs, which was nice.

We also had a few who were interested in getting their hair locked. The greatest benefit of attending a gathering of locked hair folks and you're interested in getting your hair locked is, you have the liberty to touch everyone's locks and get away with it, so to speak. You also get to ask millions of questions and see close-up how no two heads are alike. It's a fascinating experience. We did have a bittersweet moment, because two of the attendees are relocating to the East and West coast. Thank God for internet, blogging, and myspace. We shall remain in touch via the www. I'm posing in a couple of shots with each of them in the photo collage. Not sure who's hosting it next, so you'll have to be on the look out.

DFW Sisterlocks Gathering was Grand!

Thank you to all who attended the gathering. We had soooo much fun! It was a blessed time together that came and went so fast!

DFW Gathering is Next Sunday- RSVP Please!!

I wanted to send a reminder about the DFW Gathering that will be in Waco, Tx next Sunday, February 18th from 2-5pm. Here's the Google Map of Beatnix Coffeehouse.

The Sisterlock Gatherings actually have more than Sisterlocked women who attend. It's all about embracing that natural beauty, baby! We encourage anyone to come and fellowship, be you SL'd locked, nappy, pressed, twa, it doesn't matter. We will have a great time next Sunday and those of you who are regulars, get ready to meet some new faces coming from Austin, Waco and the DFW area!!!

With that being said, I had the pleasure of meeting two new women at our last gathering who've been locked for a while and I accidently left them off the list for the video testimony debut. I must have gone video crazy that day!!!

DFW Sisterlocks Gathering will be Sunday 2-18-07

Greetings,

I wanted to send a quick "save the date" of the upcoming DFW Sisterlock gathering that will be held in Waco, Tx, Sunday February 18th from 2-5pm at Beatnix Coffeehouse.

Those of you who wanted to come last time prior to the weather cancellation, you can still RSVP until Tuesday February 13th. Prepayment of $17 is requested because this is a catered event. Jen and I are excited to share with everyone in a private and relaxed venue. If you'd like to attend, please email at sweetiepp03-bloggin at yahoo.com with your RSVP and plan of payment. DFW Waco Gathering Cancellation :-(

It's been raining, cold and thunderous here in Waco since yesterday, but it has been worse in the DFW area and getting worser. With 23 women confirmed to attend tomorrow's gathering, it is with discernment and consideration for the safety of all that we cancel and reschedule the gathering. Since over half the attendees would be traveling from the DFW area, it just isn't safe considering the severe weather alerts of freezing pellet sized rain.

A major winter storm is in the forecast for all of North Texas for the remainder of the weekend through early Monday. This has prompted the National Weather Service to issue an ice storm warning for North Texas until 6 a.m. Monday. Significant accumulations are possible with some locations receiving ?to 1? of ice. Stay tuned for further updates.

Sunday

Thunderstorms and freezing rain. Ice accumulation of one quarter to one half of an inch. Highs in the lower 30s. North winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.

So, I'll be emailing all who RSVP'd with more details on what we need to do for rescheduling with Beatnix Coffeehouse and the caterer. I thank all who emailed me with excitement about attending the gathering. Jen and I were looking forward to showing everyone a great time! Hopefully the reschuled date will be within a couple of weeks. We are all sad that we can't get together, but I'm sure all involved understand that this is pretty much out of our control. What we can control is making the best decision to cancel and reschedule. May God bless ya until I blog again, which will be real soon!!

You're Invited to the DFW Sisterlocks Gathering

Yes, the next gathering is being hosted by Jen and me in Waco, Tx. Beatnix Coffeehouse is our regular spot a few days of the week but the day we gather, it will be for our use only, a private engagement! Click here to Map Beatnix to plan your commute. To give those who need time to travel or go to church service first, we'll begin at 2pm and end at 5pm.

The approximate cost is $17 which includes entree and sides, plus good ole' sweet tea. If you want to bring any other beverage or dessert of your choice, you are welcome to do so. The event will be custom catered by Blanek's and the menu will include chicken and seafood selections.

Since the coffeehouse will be closed for our use only I plan on having a special video presentation because they have a nice big screen TV/DVD player. Those of you who have poetry to read or a song you want to share, bring it on!! As you see in the invite flyer, they have a nice stage that we'll use for anyone interested in getting in the spotlight, mic and all! I'll be video taping intros and entertainment.

Ladies, we're gonna have fun!!! I need not remind you to bring your cameras. We were considering inviting husbands and SOs, but we'll do that perhaps on the next run! It will be just girls this time! Car-pooling is encouraged.

Sisterlock and Locked Hair Testimonies

These are video testimonies from the DFW Sisterlock Gathering this past weekend (10-15-06). The sound is not good because the Cheesecake factory was packed that afternoon and the only place we could get interviews done (it was raining outside) was in the hallway leading to the bathroom! (LOL). Each lady genuinely shares why she's locked or natural.

We've come to find that it's more about becoming natural than focusing on any particular style or method to wear your nappy hair! Of course since it's a Sisterlock gathering, most of the women talk about why they love Sisterlocks. Each video can only be found here, on the Locked Hair Blog Exchange, or possibly on each ladies blogs, if they have one. You will not find their testimonies in a search on google video because I uploaded them as "unlisted" in a search on google. My photos from the event are in my fotki. Hell? No! High Water? Yes! I'm back

My computer's back up and I wanted to share a quick mini collage of me sitting in the car while heading to Allen, Tx Sunday afternoon for the Sisterlock Gathering, hosted by Karen. The water you see is covering I-35 completely! By the grace of God, we made it up and back safely and had a great time! I'll be posting more pics soon!

DFW Sisterlock Gathering III -Next Sunday

Well, Jen, Felicia and I

will be heading to Allen, Tx next Sunday after Church to hang out with some positive, enlightening, and progressive sisters in the DFW area. This will be our third gathering and since Felicia has decided to get locked in the near future, Jen and I figured this would give her a major motivational boost in getting her money and mind in order for the big and wonderful change that awaits her. Karen is graciously hosting this event.

The first gathering was on my birthday last year, October 9th. For us all being strangers, no one could tell by the immediate bonding that took place at the Blue Mesa Grill.
These women, whom most are college educated and professional are a breath of fresh air!

The second gathering was the first weekend in December. Blaqkofi hosted the gathering at her beautiful home in Ft. Worth.

We had a blast!
Most everyone left after dark.

Unfortunately, Waco has a way to go before it's jumps on the bandwagon to become more culturally inviting and progressive for Sistahs to get together for intelligent dialogue outside of church. Men or women sporting naturals and locks are far and few in between. I know a change is comin' though!! I shall keep hope alive! Can't wait til' next Sunday!

Happy Birthday Blaqkofi!!!

Blaqkofi graciously opened her beautiful home to bunch of women (about 18 of us) yesterday for food, fun and fellowship!!! We had such a marvelous time. She was so giving, she allowed us to also share in listening to her handsome son Kory play the keyboard and relax in such an inviting and intimate atmosphere. Beautiful, inside and out, I'm wishing you the BEST BIRTHDAY day ever!!! Many blessings, my sister!!!

Empowerment and Entertainment Anyone??

Well, here's collage #1 of yesterday's fun filled afternoon/evening at the DFW Sisterlock Gathering #2. DFW Consultant Gretchel "GiGi" Johnson, started it off with a ten minute motivational speech that set the stage for the electrifying energy exerted the rest of the evening. Tra read a poem called Vampire Love, from All About Love, the chapbook that has poetry and commentary about self love from Dr. Cornwell herself. I read an original piece called In The Mirror, along with another piece from the All About Love chapbook called Testifyin' which had everyone shouting, screaming and bustin' a gut. Narissa, LaChanda's sixteen year-old niece, broke it down with a powerful original piece with attitude and class! She had all the ladies snapping their fingers afterwards. Blaqkofi added spice as well reading, So Address Me As Such, by Renee Johnson and any women who didn't feel they had dignity collected some for themselves after she was finished. The only thing we didn't have was singing. OK, ladies, don't hold back next time!!! I know there were some singers in the house.

We'll be meeting up again to celebrate Blaqkofi's Birthday on the 4th of December! I will be reading some of my poetry and hopefully Jen will be playing her guitar. We shall have a barrel of fun!
